Power Conditioners
for Line Isolation
low-impedance isolation transformers and automatic voltage regulators
for precision regulated ac power
and systems surge protection
|
 |
Power conditioners come in
many forms for solving many different kinds of ac power problems
as well as providing noise filtering and surge protection, with some
also providing automatic voltage regulation.
This page is dedicated to line
conditioners based on isolation transformer technology to provide
clean power that is free of transients and line noise, and with a
pristine common mode, due to the neutral-ground bond on the output of
the isolation transformer. (incoming building power, at the electric
utility service entrance, is the other place where you will find a
neutral-ground bond). The re-created neutral-ground bond is why many
people think of an isolation transformer as a new 'dedicated' line - a
term that really should mean a dedicated circuit with it's own circuit
breaker. What modern electronics want, to operate seamlessly, is a
pure unadulterated stream of smooth flowing electrons. Due to the
magnetics involved, an isolation transformer is a huge part of making
that possible. (Also, an isolation transformer is the only code
approved method of re-creating a neutral-ground bond other than where
the electric utility does it at the building service entrance).
But, isolation transformers alone, with
the exception of the ferroresonant constant voltage isolation
transformer, are Not voltage regulation systems. In the face of
rolling brownouts, momentary dips in voltage due to motor startups,
etc., equipment has a much better chance of running smoothly if
automatic voltage regulation equipment is also utilized. For voltage
regulators alone (you may already have a good building isolation
transformer helping you), please visit the
Ac Voltage Regulators page. (Note: electrical noise 'within' your
building often necessitates 'point-of-use' isolation line conditioners
as a solution.)
That said, the best power protection is
isolation transformer power conditioning Plus precision voltage
regulation, placed as close to the 'point-of-use' as you can
reasonably get. There are some models below that provide both modes of
power quality correction. (And of course, everyone as standard
practice should have a stout surge protective device at the electric
utility service entrance as close to the building ground rod as
feasible, for first stage ac mains surge protection).
Please look at the
power conditioners
table, or at the more detailed descriptions further down, to determine
the power conditioner series you need.

ILc-1000B

ILc-5500
ILc-15000 |
ILc ~ single phase
These line conditioners provide the all-round best (best, meaning for typical
installations not requiring voltage regulation as well. If you need voltage
regulation, too, please see the FLc or VRp-ILc combination units.) power conditioning and
surge protection for sensitive electronic equipment. The integral
low-impedance isolation transformer provides 100% isolation from the input
ac line. The secondary neutral-to-ground bond eliminates all surge voltages
between neutral and ground. Surge protection and noise filtering are
superior to conventional surge protection and filtering devices.
ILc Series conditioners reduce the need for a high quality ground and a
dedicated line, while eliminating interference from adjacent sources of
disturbances. ILc contributes to enhanced operation, improved repeatability,
fewer reboots and system lock-ups and extended operating life. In addition,
a reduction in equipment down time and service costs can be expected.
Designed for situations where reliability and
predictability matter to the enterprise. Examples include: point-of-sale

ILc-VRp ~ single phase, universal input/output
The ILc-VRp dual range automatic precision
voltage regulator with built-in low-impedance isolation transformer allows
trouble-free operation of electronic equipment over a very wide ac voltage
range of 120vac or 240vac +/-20% found in many developing countries. Output
regulation responds in less than one line cycle and corrects output voltage
to 115vac or 230vac +/-2.5% with 20,000 corrections per second. There is no switching of taps
or otherwise a break in the power path as continuous PWM (pulse-width-modulation)
switching of the primary winding of a buck-boost transformer leaves the
secondary power path intact.
ILc-2000-VRp-Dual-Range ~ 120V+240V, 2000VA

VRp-ILc-16500-0338 |
VRp-Ilc ~
three phase
The VRp-ILc automatic precision voltage regulator with built-in
low-impedance isolation transformer allows trouble-free operation of
electronic equipment over a very wide mains ac voltage range of 400V +/-20%
(+/-30% for short durations) found in many developing countries.
There is no
switching of taps or otherwise a break in the power path thanks to
continuous PWM (pulsed-width-modulation) switching of a buck-boost
transformer primary winding. Outstanding voltage regulation: under normal
input range of 400vac +/- 20%, output voltage per phase will be 230 vac +/-1% (47 to
63Hz). Units feature an over/under voltage cutoff, with automatic restart
when ac mains voltage returns to normal (safe) condition, below 300vac or
above 160vac. Failsafe: automatic bypass (even during bypass, the over/under
voltage protection is active).
These units are designed for
applications where absolutely safe and precisely regulated ac power is
required, such as mobile communications (GSM/satellite/wireless broadband),
radio base stations (RBS) /base transmitter stations (BTS), radio / TV
broadcasting, transmission sites for backhaul (including microwave links)
industrial process controller (PLC), medical (mobile MRI, CT) and laboratory
or analytical measurement equipment.

Outdoor VRp-ILc ~ three phase
As above
three phase VRp-ILc Series, but the unit comes in a specially designed outdoor rated
enclosure with multiple air exhaust fans. To maximize cooling, the isolation
transformer is housed in an IP23 outer enclosure. Sensitive components are
housed in an IP55 inner case. Overall equivalent is to an IP44 (NEMA-3R)
enclosure. The automatic bypass assures that connected equipment will not
shut down, even if VRp-ILc fails. VRp-ILc is compatible with all loads as it
does not switch any components in the power path. VRp-ILc’s ultra-low
impedance assures stability even with the most demanding loads. The
automatic overvoltage cutoff with automatic restart ensures that operation
is off-line during serious overvoltage situations that could damage the
system and/or load, and then restarts without intervention when the ac mains
voltage returns to the normal operating range. The lightweight, high
efficiency outdoor VRp-ILc is easy to install in exterior environments.
