This page contains links to web sites and
pages having to do with electricity, power quality, sources for papers on
power, trade groups, patents, education, health, and of course, some 'simply
for fun' sites. The information is divided into the following categories:
Time and measurement
Some interesting sites pertaining to the most
accurate time, and measurement conversions, and also a download site for a
favorite freeware 'desktop' calculator that sure beats the regular little
calculator..
 |
The Atomic Clock - To get the MOST Correct Time to set your
computer clock: access the Boulder, CO, USA National Institute of Science

allows for the time it takes to get the signal to you through the internet! |
 |
Inches to Metric and Other Conversions -
Metric to Inches and Other Conversions
You want to be exact with your conversions. Don't have another Mars Lander
episode. Try these sites from the US National Institute of Standards and
Technology. |

RPN Calculator
Though I love my HP 41CX and 12C
programmable calculators the most, this onscreen popup calculator with RPN
(Reverse Polish Notation)
is simply terrific! Wondering what RPN is?
In the 1920's, a polish
mathematician, Jan
Lukasiewicz (1878-1956) developed a very
efficient math logic system. His theory of logic was further developed by
Hewlett-Packard (HP), which adjusted the postfix notation to work on a
calculator keyboard, and they added a "stack" to hold the operands. HP
coined a descriptor for the new system: "Reverse Polish Notation" (RPN) in
honor of Mr. Lukasiewicz. If you always wanted
to play with RPN, here's your chance! |
Some interesting sites pertaining to
electrical theory and standards.

Some other interesting URL's pertaining to
power quality, and manufacturer's of devices for complex power problems
represented by some of our manufacturer's representatives.
 |

If you like to look at these kinds of
documents, this site's for you.
These sites are for folks interested in
technology and the electric utility industry. If you are interested in some
of the national issues (de-regulation) presently facing the utility industry
and our entire country... the electric utility sites are worthwhile looking
at. The arguments against de-regulation by the APPA and NRECA are pretty
strong. Just remember Enron. All the sites have extensive links pages.
 |
NIST ~ National Institute for Standards and Technology. A
website loaded with information on state of the art technology. Highly
recommended. |
 |
NRECA ~ National Rural Electric Cooperative Association. A
website whose focus is on Rural Electric Associations/Cooperatives and their
members. |
 |
APPA ~ The American Public Power Association website.
Contains articles and links of concern to people whose electric utility is a
municipal or PUD (Public Utility District). |
 |
Edison Electric Institute (EEI) ~ An electric industry association
of investor owned utilities. Most interesting papers are restricted. Not
consumer friendly, but worth being aware of. |
 |
Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) - A well credentialed
research organization owned by member electric utilities. Some documentation
is available to non-members,
but be prepared for a lot of "access forbidden" messages. |

Fun
and education
This is a short list of links that are purely
for fun and education. The first two are "must-see's."
 |
Hubble
Space Telescope pictures - The Hubble has been upgraded many
times now, and the result has been more spectacular than anyone ever
expected! Be prepared to have your view of the universe changed
dramatically. The colors and shapes of the different nebulae and supernovae
are beyond what anyone ever imagined. The Eagle Nebulae Star Egg Pillars can
be seen from this page. I can't recommend this site highly enough.

http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/99_releases/press_092899.html -
The pictures and article are such that about all one can do is be amazed and
wonder. A recent presenter at a lecture at the Aspen Physics Institute
showed overlaid pictures of infrared, X-ray and the optical spectrum, and
afterwards, rather than address the 'potential implications' of what was
seen, she simply went further into describing the clouds of oxygen and
hydrogen present in massive quantities as the audience's jaws were left on
the floor. While the link describes certain energy flows, it is, alas, about
all we can do. The magnitude and possible implications of the energy flows,
when combined with images and corresponding theory from the visible and
infrared spectrums, the verified existence of black holes coming together in
huge galactic collisions, the mystery of seemingly attractive dark matter
and the confirmed Acceleration of space as we know it, well, I think each of
us is going to have to give it private thought, contemplation, and come to
our own unique conclusions. http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/99_releases/press_092899.html |

The MIT OpenCourseWare Project -
After the breathtaking views from the Hubble, I think MIT's open knowledge
project is the most laudable web-work on the internet. If you want your
degree to be from MIT, you still have to go there, but if all you want is
the knowledge, they're putting it all on the web, for free. I've most enjoyed that they are posting the best term paper,
the latest researched conjectures,
from each department - each semester. Be prepared and have a very Thick dictionary
with you while reading them though. *smiling* |
 |
The NASA Shuttle site - "The NASA
Shuttle Web" - When
happening, this has Live Audio and Video feed from the Space Shuttle Houston
Center. Some incredible footage of the earth from space! |

skiing opportunities, lodging, etc in Glenwood Springs. |
 |
Knots on the Web - If you're going fly fishing in Glenwood on the
Colorado, or up on the Frying Pan, brush up
on your knot tying. The site has lots of drawings and history. This is a
site for all of us
that never got our knot tying merit badges... this site has links to
virtually every kind of knot imaginable, from sailors knots, to fly fishing
knots, kite knots, and knots that are more like jigsaw puzzles and
brainteasers than anything functional. |
 |
The Boson's Mate ~ An interesting site if you're excited about
sailing. |
 |
Aspen/Snowmass, Colorado information - A site to use to see what's
happening in Aspen/Snowmass, from the Aspen Music Festival to skiing
