Outdoor UPS, also known as exterior rated uninterruptible power
systems
(UPS systems/battery backups)
are available in standard IP 44 (NEMA 3R) and other enclosures for use in
extreme wide temperature exterior environments to support applications such as: outdoor
surveillance cameras, telecommunications, cellular, wi-fi, base stations and
others.

Outdoor UPS are for where uptime is critical to an
operation's
mission fulfillment. Typical outdoor UPS back-up times are from 8 minutes to
24 hours. If
even longer times are desirable, extra battery cabinets or extra internal
batteries are optional.
Please note: a good rule of thumb to keep
in mind for calculating backup time for your application is "if you halve
the load, you triple the backup time of the batteries." e.g. if you use a
1000W UPS that has a full load backup time of 10 minutes, but your true rms
measured load wattage is actually only 500W, then your backup time would
actually be about 30 minutes.
The Outdoor XUPs series sine wave outdoor UPS incorporates a built-in automatic
voltage regulator to enable handling wide voltage swings without having to
exercise the batteries, which thereby extends battery life. This is an
important feature for remote locations where being so far out may
create significant voltage drop from nominal.
Line-interactive single conversion UPS topologies are utilized
as the primary choice for these units (instead of double conversion ac-dc-ac
"true on-line" UPS) due to the typical application's critical need for light weight and
as little heat throw-off from the
UPS as possible. In addition to ambient temperature, too much extra heating
from the UPS itself could otherwise potentially create an over-temperature
situation. Outdoor UPS transfer times from utility to battery power are
extremely fast, and essentially invisible to the modern switch mode power
supplies used in almost all new systems these days.

Typical outdoor uninterruptible power supply applications would be:
- For CCTV
video surveillance public security operations,
to enable video detection camera views to continue during a power
outage.
- For
broadband and cellular base stations,
to protect local and wireless cellular networks from loss of transmission
during outages.
- For
remote authorization systems,
to make sure people can still get in and out when they need to.
- For
advanced traffic management systems (ATMS),
to make sure traffic control LED signals keep intersections clear.

Outdoor XUPS
for extreme wide temperatures and severe outdoor environments,
these UPS and optional extra battery cabinets in IP44 (NEMA 3R) rated outdoor
enclosures offer long backup times in pole mountable, wall
mountable or pedestal mountable design. These offer line interactive
automatic voltage regulation (AVR), over/ under-voltage protection, surge
protection with heavy duty noise filtering, communications capability and
optional extended battery backup.
As remote systems tend to be customized and vary, enclosures and UPS

Outdoor XUPS
with maintenance bypass and optional
automatic bypass designed for extreme mission-critical applications. With
special powder coated grey finish for a neutral blending in neutrally with the environment.
Suitable for pole mounting (or pedestal) and for extreme wide temperatures/severe outdoor
weather conditions. These UPS and optional extra battery cabinets in an IP44
(NEMA 3R) rated outdoor
enclosures offer long backup times in pole mountable, wall
mountable or pedestal mountable design. These units offer line interactive
automatic voltage regulation, over/ under-voltage protection, surge
protection with heavy duty noise filtering, communications capability,
and "hotel" capability for OEMs. Additional 24V ac output is also
available as an option. As remote systems tend to be customized and vary, enclosures and UPS
design may vary.

Includes a built-in maintenance bypass switch.
Optional auto-bypass.

Outdoor XUPS
for large project rollouts can
necessitate different battery configurations, different enclosures, battery
heaters for arctic areas, maintenance or automatic-bypass switches, etc.
Following is an example of an outdoor UPS for extreme wide temperatures and severe
weather conditions. These are
similar to the above outdoor XUPs units, come in IP44
(NEMA 3R) rated outdoor
enclosures in pole mountable (with optional pole mounting bracket), wall
mountable or pedestal mountable design. These UPS offer line-interactive
automatic voltage regulation with wide input voltage windows, over/ under-voltage protection, surge
protection with heavy duty noise filtering, communications capability,
and optional extended battery backup. Additional 24V ac output is also
available as an option.

design may vary per your application.

Outdoor UPs for heavy-duty environments
Ferroresonant constant voltage transformer output
Ferroresonant
constant voltage regulating isolation transformer no-break UPS system in an outdoor
rated NEMA 3R enclosure. This is a heavy duty
uninterruptible power system with a constant voltage pure sine wave output
intended for areas needing the best surge protection and +/-3% automatic
voltage regulation as well as backup. Batteries are rated for extreme
wide temperature range.
As remote systems tend to be customized and vary considerably, enclosures
and UPS design will vary also.

UPs-400Wtb
UPs with wide temperature battery for extreme climate conditions and for use
inside existing OEM outdoor enclosures. Battery backup with wide temperature
batteries, communications capability and good surge protection. This unit
also has the flexibility of adding extra battery cabinets to it for long
backup times. This unit is designed to be a low-cost wide temp UPS, and does
Not include automatic voltage regulation. This may or may not be an issue
for your application as some switch-mode power supplies have relatively
adequate voltage regulation for areas in developed countries with fairly
stable voltage and where outages are rare, so the benefits of longer battery
life from voltage regulation may not be as significant.

Please note: the rack-mountable indoor XUPs-600/1000
is available without batteries for OEMs that need a wide temperature UPS
with voltage regulation and with conformal coated boards. However, the OEM
must be able to supply enough space inside their cabinet for the wide
temperature batteries and enough room to be able to make safe connections
and service them. There is also a wide temperature OEM module available,
also without batteries, for OEMs placing systems around the world and want

Outdoor UPs-400Conf1-2
For cost-effective outdoor UPS backup in extreme wide temperatures and outdoor environments,
these UPS and optional extra battery cabinets in IP44 (NEMA 3R) rated outdoor
enclosures offer up to 2 hours of backup time at a 250W load in a pole mounted or wall
mounted design. They also include conformal coated boards to resist moisture
incursion. These units are the least expensive of the outdoor UPS units, and
do Not include automatic voltage regulation as the XUPs or ferroresonant
units do. This may or may not be an issue for your application as some switch-mode power supplies
have relatively adequate voltage regulation for areas in developed countries
with fairly stable voltage and where outages are rare.
As remote systems tend to be customized and vary, enclosures and UPS
design may vary per your application.
