Surge Arresters for
Commercial / Industrial Applications
Surge protective devices (SPD)
for ac primary service
entrance
and branch distribution
single and three phase panels |
 |
Surge
arresters, or
ac surge protective devices (SPDs ~ formerly and still sometimes called
TVSS, or transient voltage surge suppressors) are for
your primary ac service entrance and
ac
branch distribution panels. We
recommend a minimum 80kA per leg surge handling capability. And in most
circumstances, 160kA as the top ceiling. Very few installations will ever
see greater than 160kA impulses.
-
The MPT
Series is the most powerful ~ and most suitable surge
protective device for mission-critical and
remote applications.
-
The substantially powerful RCHW Series will be the most dramatically cost-effective
SPD for typical
hardwired split or three phase applications.
-
As lead-wire length/proximity
to the ground rod is important in surge diversion, make sure and ask your
electrician to keep the lead wire lengths as short as possible without
stressing the wires.

Residential/commercial RCHW hardwire SPD:
The
RCHW hardwired surge protective devices are specifically designed
for applications in residential, commercial and industrial environments. All
RCHW hardwired models are UL and cUL Listed as either secondary surge
arrestors or 1449 TVSS devices. The RCHW Series in our opinion is the most
cost-effective of the following hardwire surge protectors. The series is
ideal for specialized applications such as water and waste treatment
facilities, and is also applicable for light industrial and commercial
installations. Units are configured for parallel installation and it is
recommended they be connected to the ac power through a dedicated 30 amp
circuit breaker. Models are available for all standard electrical
configurations/voltages and have a surge suppression rating of 80kA per
phase.
Flush mount option: A kit for flush mounting the RCHW unit in a
wall. |

3 phase RCHW hardwire SPD:
This hardwired three phase ac surge arrester is designed for
applications in commercial and light industrial environments. The three phase
RCHW hardwired SPD provides superior control over transients by delivering
low clamping voltage with high surge energy handling capability. The three phase
RCHW surge protector units are available in several kA ratings and all
standard voltages. UL Listed. The RCHW Series in our opinion is the most
cost-effective of the following hardwire surge protectors. |

Main
panel treater (MPT) SPD: A
modular transient voltage surge suppressor (TVSS) series for the protection of
financial, educational, medical, transportation, communication and
manufacturing installations. This surge arrestor series is specifically designed as a
transient protection system for a site's main ac power distribution
points and switchboard panel locations. These surge protective devices are configured for
parallel installation and it is recommended they be connected to the ac
power through a dedicated 30 amp minimum or
60 amp maximum circuit
breaker. MPT models are available for all standard electrical configurations
and have surge protection ratings from 160kA to 320kA per phase.

Same
as above MPT Series SPD but with a NEMA
4 Enclosure
option. |

RPM
SPD modules: RPM
Modules are UL recognized transient surge suppressor components capable of
providing heavy duty surge protection and filtering for the industrial and
commercial sites against harmful affects of transient energies induced on
ac power lines. These surge protection modules are utilized within the MPT Series. Where industrial
electrical energy is heavy and repetitive with catastrophic level transient
activity, having a few spares of these is a great idea in remote areas
like Siberia. |

Branch
panel treater (BPT) SPD: This
non-modular transient voltage surge suppressor series is specifically
designed as a transient protection system for local and branch ac power
distribution panels. It can be used for primary surge protection of
smaller commercial sites and light industrial plants. These power
protection units are
configured for parallel installation and it is recommended they be
connected to the ac power through a dedicated 30 amp circuit breaker. BPT
models are available for all standard electrical configurations
and have surge ratings from 80kA to 240kA per phase. |

The
LDC
SPD commercial meter-based surge
protector, available for 200 amp 120/240V meter services. This meter
base surge protector features parallel redundant surge
suppression paths, twin 40MM MOVs per protection mode, while 4 LED's monitor unit
surge
protection states. |
M-Ti is also a custom
(bespoke)
industrial surge arrester/surge protective device (SPD)
manufacturer.
